Concurrent Crises Webinar 3

Holding Space for the Child

Children experience a very particular type of trauma when exposed to animal cruelty. Too little attention is paid to child survivors who may have seen the family pet brutalised or been forced to separate from their animal during the crisis of fleeing a violent home. This webinar looks at the experience of children who have witnessed cruelty to animals from a range of viewpoints; the child as victim, early intervention and prevention when children act out with violence toward animals and international initiatives to reduce the exposure children have to animal abuse.

TRIGGER WARNING: Child abuse, animal abuse, sexual abuse and domestic and family violence.

We’ll look not only at an overview of the issues in Australia but at the work of the United Nations in this space and also detail some services that may assist child victims heal from the trauma of witnessing animal abuse. We welcome guest speakers including Lort Smith and Nexus Primary Health.
